Chon Buri police yesterday arrested two men and seized a rifle and ammunition in connection with three separate attacks this year, on the home of a prison warden and on Pattaya Remand Prison.
Police raided a house in Chon Buri’s Bang Lamung district and nabbed Jirawat Suasing, 25 and Charin Jainart, 22, at about 8am.
Found in the house were an HK33 rifle with 120 rounds of ammunition and a home-made hand grenade.
The suspects are alleged to have used war weapons to attack the home of Wuttipan Krajuikrajai, a warden at Pattaya Remand Prison, on July 19. Wuttipan was at home at the time of attack but was not injured. Police found six M-16 cartridges in front of his house, which close to the prison.
The suspects were also being sought in connection with an attack on the same house on August 12, when a grenade was thrown into the property. The blast destroyed part of the house and killed two pet birds. Two weeks later attackers opened fire at the prison, wounding one inmate.
Police said both suspects said they were hired by an inmate in Chon Buri Central Prison, identified only as “Dev”, whose drug business in Pattaya Remand Prison had been affected by Wuttipun’s crackdown.
