A special high-security prison is needed for drug inmates, Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung says. Mr Chalerm, who oversees justice affairs, said steps are needed to stop drug inmates from expanding their networks inside jail and to cut off their contact with criminals on the outside. Correction Department deputy chief Kobkiart Kasiwiwat said staff had proposed construction of a “super max” prison equipped with high-tech security to house hardcore drug inmates. However, no budget had been allocated. Justice Minister Pracha Promnok said the ministry has no budget for such a prison. A high-tech security system has been installed in Khao Bin prison in Ratchaburi to block mobile phone signals, but it is one of a kind.
