A total of 3,000 cell phones and narcotic substances have been confiscated during recent raids at 142 prisons nationwide. Corrections Department’s deputy chief Kobkiat Kasiwat said Thursday that each raid had turned up at least 20-30 phones. All the raids were conducted during February.

“If the authorities kept up the policy of impromptu searches, the problem of cell phones or prohibited items smuggled for use behind bars would disappear.” Kobkiat also said he hadn’t heard from the Drug Suppression Police about their previously reported request for three drug inmates, allegedly members of a Southern drug ring, for another drug case investigation.
